Ceremony, a new matcha bar from Tashas Group, seeks a Tea Apprentice in Cape Town. This full-time role focuses on learning matcha preparation, serving guests, and managing daily café operations.
About At Ceremony, a cup of matcha is never just a drink. It is a pause, a small ritual, a moment of stillness. As we welcome guests to our first brick and mortar matcha bar on Bree Street, we are looking for a new Tea Apprentice to join our team: someone who finds joy in the quiet craft of preparation, takes pride in the details, and loves making people feel at home.
This is a role for someone who wants to learn deeply. You'll be guided in the art of matcha, from the whisk to the bowl, and grow into a Ceremony Ambassador.
Your Ritual
You will prepare every beverage with intention, care for the space as if it were your own, and offer each guest a moment worth slowing down for. Through presence and attention to detail, you will help shape the calm and welcoming atmosphere that defines Ceremony.
What You'll Be Doing
The Craft: Prepare and serve matcha and specialty beverages with precision, following CRMNY recipes and brand standards. Develop a deep understanding of our menu: the flavour profiles, ingredients, allergens, preparation methods, sizes, and the origins and inspiration behind every item. Share that knowledge with guests warmly and confidently, helping them find the drink that suits their moment. Manage and prioritise orders with accuracy and a calm, steady rhythm. Ensure every beverage and food item that leaves the bar reflects the quality Ceremony is known for.
The Space: Prepare your station for each service, keeping counters, equipment and bar areas clean, sanitised, beautifully set and fully stocked with mise en place, supplies and glassware. Follow opening, mid-shift and closing duties with care, in line with our brand, cleaning and styling guides. Operate and care for our café equipment, including frothers, blenders and stand mixers, keeping everything in excellent working order. Keep the bar tidy and flowing throughout the day, from washing dishes to wiping down surfaces to refilling water vases. Break down your station after service and store ingredients correctly, ensuring everything is fresh and used within its shelf life. Complete daily and weekly prep sheets, and support inventory and ordering to minimise waste and keep our shelves full.
The Team: Attend pre-shift briefings and take ownership of your assigned duties. Support new team members as they learn the Ceremony way. Contribute to a warm, respectful and positive working environment. Live our values through courtesy, professionalism and presence in every interaction.
Health, Safety & Standards: Handle food and cleaning products according to HACCP standards. Complete daily health and safety checklists and follow-ups. Uphold all health and safety regulations to keep our space safe for guests and team alike. Present yourself in line with our grooming, uniform and hygiene standards.
Candidates must have a genuine love for tea, wellness, hospitality or the art of slowing down. Barista or hospitality experience is welcome, but curiosity and a willingness to learn matter most.
A keen eye for detail and a quiet commitment to doing things beautifully, every time is required.
Warm, clear communication and a natural ease with people are expected.
Candidates must demonstrate a calm, organised presence in a busy space and a positive attitude.
Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays is essential.
Learning: Learn the craft of matcha from the people who built Ceremony.
Environment: Work in a thoughtfully designed matcha bar in the heart of Bree Street.
Community: Be part of a growing brand with a strong, loyal community.
Growth: Opportunities to grow with Ceremony and within the wider Tashas Group.
Culture: Experience a culture rooted in intention, care and continuous learning.
