What is a Learnership?
A learnership is a work-based learning programme that combines practical workplace experience with structured training. Successful learners receive a nationally recognised qualification while gaining valuable skills that improve their chances of finding employment.
Many employers use learnerships to develop young talent, especially unemployed South African youth who are looking to build experience in industries such as banking, retail, engineering, healthcare, mining, logistics, information technology and public service.
Who Can Apply?
Entry requirements vary depending on the employer, but many learnerships are open to South African citizens who have:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- TVET College qualifications
- NQF qualifications
- Relevant certificates or diplomas
- Little or no previous work experience
Some programmes are specifically designed for unemployed youth, while others target graduates or applicants with qualifications in particular fields.
