About this opportunity

AECOM is looking for a Graduate Ecologist to join their Enterprise Capability (EC) Team in Centurion. This role involves supporting the Nature team with ecological inputs for UK-based infrastructure, renewable energy, and water projects. You will work as part of a global team, receiving structured training and mentorship while developing technical skills in ecological consulting. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the Centurion office.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting desk-based ecological studies including research on designated sites and protected species records.
  • Analysing ecological survey data, such as bat audio recordings and infrared imagery.
  • Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and offsetting calculations.
  • Preparing Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), and protected species reports.
  • Assisting with protected species licence applications and habitat management plans.
  • Coordinating ecological field surveys and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including GIS and landscape architecture.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Ecology, Biology, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Conservation, Environmental Science, or a related subject.
  • 0 to 4 years of work experience in a related field.
  • Understanding of core ecological principles, including the scientific method and mitigation hierarchy.
  • Strong technical writing and report preparation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities within project budgets.
  • Knowledge of nature conservation legislation and habitats (UK specific knowledge is an advantage).
